One of the main aspects of spiritual growth is the realization that you actually ARE the reality you previously thought you lived IN.
For example, at first, we feel that we find love by getting it from other people. When we feel loved by others, that is when we experience love.
Then we can move to a state where we are literally “in love” with someone. It’s literally like you and I are bathing within the warm glow of love itself.
And then we find that this Love can actually be experienced with everyone and everything. This Love then becomes unconditional. We become “in love” with it All!
Yet once we start inquiring as to where this Love actually comes from in the first place, we realize that it’s not coming from outside of us at all! It’s actually coming from within. The Source of Love is within.
Dive down even further and you’ll realize that not only is the Source within you, but you actually ARE this Source. You ARE Love itself. Everything you say, everything you do, and everything you are is simply a physical expression of the Love that you are.
You don’t exist in physical reality. Physical reality exists WITHIN YOU! You ARE physical reality!
There really is no reality outside of you. You actually ARE All That Is. It is all you. You are that.
What we perceive in physical reality is nothing more than a collection of props, a projection of the mind, a big illusion.
What is real is the EXPERIENCE you’re having, not the props that appear within the experience.
You are consciousness experiencing consciousness, awareness becoming aware of awareness, the Self realizing the Self.
The one who seeks enlightenment is the enlightened one seeking itself.
The experience we call Life is God experiencing God.
You actually ARE everything you think you live IN.
This realization is so profound that one of Nisargadatta’s excellent books is titled I Am That. (You can find excerpts and highlights from the book here.)
You are not within anything, including physical reality. You ARE physical reality.
You are not IN love. You ARE Love.
You are not IN God. You ARE God.
I AM That, I AM.

Ariel, this is a great post. Thanks
I kind of feel strange about ourselves being God though. Oneness really resonates within me when thinking of other people but I cannot really grasp it when thinking about God. It also feels kind of sad as in I would need God to be separate from me to really trust Him as I have betrayed myself so many times. I don’t know. I find it like less comforting. Any thoughts about this?

Hey Esther,
If Oneness resonates with you better, by all means use that word.
The concepts of God that many of us were raised with, as it turns out, has very little to do with the experience of God. What good is a concept about color to a blind person? Only direct experience will suffice. Not matter how accurate or inaccurate our descriptions, they’re not going to help as much as one would hope.
Regarding not feeling comfortable, that is totally understandable. The “you” who you feel is not completely trustworthy is totally lovable and wonderful, yet that’s not actually who you are, nor is that who God is!
The “you” who is the most accurate reflection of God’s true nature is different from the God you’ve been told about, growing up.
If you investigate and find out who you REALLY are, any worries and discomfort will automatically dissolve and you may just find that there’s nothing to fix. You are totally whole and perfect just as you are. All that’s left, right now, is to discover this on your own for yourself, and then to live and be that.
Much Love, Esther
Ascension?? Did I have this? I had this experience one night, that lasted only about 3 seconds our time, but I did not just become fully lucid, and this whole reality was a dream…but I actually woke up from the dream entirely. I was in a different dimension. I realized that I was literally God/god-consciousnesses, and the entire universe/reality/everything-that-is, was just a play (cyclic existence) from very deep within…much like our dreams at night are just subconscious plays from deep within us. Maybe this is what the term “ascension” refers to?

That, too, is an experience of it. Many people have experienced this before somehow. We’re just now putting words to it.
Many thanks for your answer Ariel which is great. Yet, the thing is so tricky. I feel so much better when I pray. In my experiece, trying to convince myself I am strong enough to overcome something doesn’t work as well as praying and asking for strenght. Then, I feel God must be separate from me because He kind of answers and I feel much better inside. If I just tell myself I am strong enough i feel a bit as deceiving myself…
