Vocabulary
A
- Abundance – A state of being whereby everything desired is provided by the universe as a result of the understanding that there is enough of everything. The byproduct of feeling abundant is the actual experience of having abundance in life. For more information, read this post.
- Anger – Fear announced. It is a very natural emotion that allows you to say “No, thank you”. When repressed, it turns into rage. It’s a sign of hurt feelings which only means hurt ego.
- Attack – A call for help based on the ego’s notion of danger.
- Attraction – A natural universal process whereby energies, such as the thoughts and intentions, which vibrate at similar frequencies come together and eventually form manifested matter. Its opposite, repulsion, does not exist. Therefore, you attract that which you think about, even if you think you don’t want it.
- Aura – A dense area of energy containing a being’s physical body. It can be likened to person’s individual soul, without boundary or separation from the rest of universal energy.
- Awareness – You are the eternal silent awareness, the nonjudgmental observer of your reality. All it takes to experience your true Self is to maintain a state of awareness without judging or labeling or the content of the world. Simply be aware of content without mental commentary. Even be aware of the fact that you’re aware. Listen to the silence pervading all things. Become aware of the gentle, yet supremely powerful stillness and you will know God. Another point to note is that you don’t do aware, you be aware. It’s a state of being, not a particular action. For more information, read this post.
B
- Birth – A process whereby the Oneness moves from the spiritual realm into the physical world by changing its vibration and adopting a mind, physical body, and “individual” soul to become a three-part being.
- Being – That which you are. You are pure Beingness. You are not your thoughts, your body, or the events that happen to you. You are the awareness that is simply being what it is. This word is synonymous with God or consciousness, but it is sometimes used because it doesn’t have all of the baggage and misconceptions that are associated around the word God.
- Body – A physical vessel that allows us to move through this physical world and experience all that Life has to offer. The body is not who we are, nor is it actually ours. It is something we are temporarily using in this particular point in time and space. We experience our reality through the body’s five physical senses and its sixth nonphysical sense. It can be likened to a “meat suit” since it’s simply something we’re temporarily wearing and using. It’s not what we actually are.
C
- Calibration – A technique used to discern truth from falsehood or to measure someone’s level of consciousness via muscle testing through kinesiology. For more information, read Power vs. Force.
- Causality – The illusion as viewed by the ego that A causes B over a period of time as it seems to occur in the linear, physical world. It is a misunderstanding of the true nature of Creation for correlation does not imply causation. In ultimate reality, everything exists simultaneously, yet in our physical world, our awareness shifts through moments in time and it appears that things happen sequentially. It is literally impossible for something to cause something else. There are many factors, large and small, that influence creation. Because it’s impossible to control all of the variables, it’s impossible to guarantee that A will cause B. It’s really more a question of probabilities. For more information, read this post.
- Chakra – A cluster of raw energy in the body which acts like an antenna, receiving and detecting energy from the universe. The human body has seven major chakras. The higher you raise your life energy through your chakras, the more elevated your consciousness in general.
- Change – A continuous process that all beings, both physical and non-physical, undergo. Something which appears to be unchanging is actually recreating itself anew in the same way over and over. A rock may look like it’s not moving, but zoom in to a microscopic level and you’ll see atoms zooming around in every which way. Give it enough time and you’ll see the rock start to weather away. Everything in the universe is constantly changing. It is literally impossible for anything to stay the same. What looks like staying the same is really something changing into a similar thing over and over again. If you want to experience a life of peace and without suffering, it is important to accept that life changes and to flow with change rather than resist it. Resisting change only leads to pain.
- Choice – The process of selecting one option over another. A person always has a choice, but when identified as the ego and believed to be a victim, the person will often mistakenly claim that they had no choice in the matter and that someone else is responsible for their problems. The truth is that you always have a choice within your collection of known possible choices.
- Coincidence – This does not exist. There are no accidents in the universe. Nothing is coincidental. Every thing, every person, and every event is drawn to you by you in order for you to experience who you really are. The universe is like an infinitely large tapestry and you, but your choices, are guiding it every step of the way. If you were to “zoom out” on life, you would see how everything fits together perfectly. It’s only when your awareness of life is limited and you only see a small piece of the puzzle that it looks like things happen by accidents or coincidences occur.
- Collective Consciousness – The overall consciousness of humanity itself. It is reflective of the sum total of the consciousness of individual people.
- Compassion – A deep honoring and respect for the Self, for other people, and for the world. The ability to share your light with others, without associating yourself with their suffering.
- Condemnation – An illusion that is not actually performed by God. It is a destructive action based upon the illusion of judgment and performed by the ego in order to strengthen itself and subsequently be right. Do not condemn anyone for anything for you know not the higher purpose at work.
- Consciousness – The essence of that which you are, not something that can be lost. (You can not lose consciousness). It is the unmanifest from which all form arises, the all-pervading beingness that is everywhere and makes up the universe. It is that which witnesses all content.
- Creation – A constant process whereby something evolves over “time” and is ultimately guided by our thoughts, words, and actions. The world was created all at once AND it is being created over the course of time. Both evolution and creation are correct, looking at the same thing from different perspectives. We, as Creators, are constantly creating our reality, be it unconsciously or consciously. How we create is discussed at length in books such as The Law of Attraction.
- Crown Chakra – The seventh chakra at the top of the head responsible for our connection with our Higher Self and advanced spiritual truths. This is your connection to God, to the unity of all life. By raising your energy up to your crown chakra, you can even leave your body while “awake.”
D
- Death – An illusion which is in actuality just energy changing form, much like water evaporating into vapor or vice versa. Nothing is lost. Rather, the individual entity lets go of the body, mind, and personal soul to merge back into the Oneness beyond time and space. Death is the passageway between the physical world and the spiritual realm and back again. To learn more about what happens after death, in detail, read Home With God.
- Deja Vu – There is no such thing as time. Everything is happening Now, including every lifetime you experience. When you see a part of Life you’ve experienced in another life, this familiarity is recognized as deja vu. Similarly, when you receive a message such as a warning, this is because you, yourself, are telling yourself something Now from another lifetime also occurring Now. You literally have seen this before!
- Detachment – A process of completely letting go from something altogether, as opposed to nonattachment where you choose to simply experience something without assigning it meaning or relevance. Detachment creates a sort of apathetic passivity where you aren’t really in the world, but trying to escape it. Nonattachment allows you to play in the world without experiencing suffering as the world changes.
- Disidentification – A process whereby one experiences not being that which they normally identify with. For example, disidentification from the mind allows you to watch the mind as if you were watching a movie and thus both realize and experience the fact that you are not your mind at all. In reality you are the silent witness who is watching the mind. This is a fantastically useful tool for transcending the ego. Why? Because the ego operates by making you think it is you. It convinces you that your thoughts and emotions are you rather than something you’re experiencing. By disidentifying with your false self of the ego and identifying with your true Self as the awareness, you start to remember who you really are.
- Dissociative language – A useful tool to remember who you are. Instead of saying “I am going to the store,” you can say, “The body I have is going to the store.” Similarly, instead of saying, “I think that’s a good idea,” you can say, “The mind I have thinks that’s a good idea.” By doing this, you’ll continually remind yourself that you are the awareness that is watching the body and the mind you have. For more information, read this post.
- Disunity – The illusion of separation which does not actually exist. Two things may look separate only because our eyes can not physically see the energy connecting two seemingly separate objects. By analogy, there is no clear “cut-off point” between where the air in one room begins and the air in another ends. The air in the kitchen may smell more like food while the air in the garage may smell more like gasoline. The different rooms contain air which adopt different characteristics. That is, they look different while in reality, it’s all one air. The same is true with you, me, and every other person on earth. We are all connected at the deepest levels. We really, truly, are all One.
- Duality – An illusion created by the mind that there is an opposite to anything. Examples include good/bad, right/wrong, hot/cold. For example, hot and cold are really just arbitrary points on a continuous spectrum called heat. Heat is simply a measurement of how fast molecules are moving. The faster they’re moving, the hotter the substance. Now, this scale goes infinitely far in either direction. It is impossible for all the molecules to completely stop and reach the temperature of absolute zero, though they can get infinitely close. (Life IS vibration and it’s impossible for Life to be non-Life.) Similarly, temperature has no upper limit and can increase indefinitely. Hot and cold are mental constructions placed upon a scale which goes infinitely small and infinitely large. There is no such thing as hot or cold. So, when viewing the world through the mind, you will always notice an internal tennis match between conflicting possibilities. (Should I do this? Should I do that? Arghh!) Conversely, when coming from the heart and being totally present in the Now moment, solutions present themselves naturally because Love is the only truth.
E
- Ego – The mind, thoughts, and emotions within a person that attempt to claim identity as that person. It functions by thinking about, judging, and resisting what is, projecting awareness into a perceived past or future. It is a gift that allows us to experience duality, separation, and illusion where there is none and thus experience, rather than simply know conceptually, all that is. From an evolutionary standpoint, it is the built-in animal programming that allows us to analyze the appearance of something and thus determine whether it is conducive or detrimental to our physical survival. For more information, read this post.
- Ego juice – The pain and suffering the ego gets by “juicing” circumstances and events in order to feel right, justified, or victimized and thus cement in place its own existence. The painbody feeds on ego juice. Like a lost traveler who’s been forced to learn how to feed off of mud and dirt, the painbody looks for energies such as shame and guilt to feed off of and thus replenish itself. For more information, click here.
- Emotion – Energy in motion within us that moves in response to a particular thought or perception of reality. It is not who we are. Rather, it is an indicator that shows us when we are in alignment with Love and moving towards that which we want. When we move towards what we want, we feel good. When we’re somehow resisting what we want, we feel bad.
- Energy – The fundamental unit of everything in the universe. In metaphysics, these are called superstrings. Everything in the universe is made up of energy vibrating at various frequencies.
- Energy Vampire – A person who, in one way or another, sucks your energy. Five basic types of energy vampires include the poor me’s, aloofs, interrogators, intimidators, and boasters.
- Enlightenment – It is your natural state of existence without the clouds of the ego blocking the light of your true source within. It is the understanding that there is nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nobody you have to be except exactly who you’re being right now. Enlightenment arises as you remove the blocks to realizing and experiencing who you truly are.
- Etheric – Simply another word for energetic. For example, your energetic body, or etheric body, could be likened to your soul.
- Evolution – Evolution IS creation, as seen from the perspective of time, whereby something is progressively created in a newer and different version of itself and thus moving to different levels.
- Existence – This is another word for God, consciousness, the universe, all that is, etc. Everything exists, paradoxically, as One. In order for something to exist, it must stand apart from something else. By analogy, if the whole world was blue, we would not know about the color blue. A fish can not experience water until its been shown water from a context “outside” of water. Now, existence is all that is and there’s no way to escape the totality so the next best thing is to imagine that you can, and in fact, that’s exactly what we do. We have a mind which allows us to look at the totality from within the totality, amazingly enough. By being apart from the world, we can look at a part of the world even though everything is really all One energy. It is all simply appearing different. Everything in the world is existence. That is, it stands apart from something else.
- Expectation – An idea that something will turn out a particular way. Expectations only lead to suffering. When you don’t get what you expected, you suffer. Even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because now you have a new expectation such as how long you can hold onto what you’ve obtained and are again unfulfilled. A life lived fully without expectation is a life of freedom.
F
- Failure – An illusion which is not actually possible. The purpose of life is to create and you are always creating that which you desire and believe, deep down. Failure is a success of knowing who you are by experiencing who you are not. What we call failure is nothing more than the creation of the context necessary to experience what we call success. Were there no context of failure, success would never be truly appreciated or even enjoyed. If in football, every pass scored a touchdown no matter what, the game would quickly stale out and get boring. There would be nothing special in a touchdown pass. We exist in a world of relativity and what we see as failure is actually a tremendous gift allowing us to fully appreciate the gift we call success.
- Falsehood – A distortion of truth as seen through the eyes of the ego.
- Fate – A result manifested by the collective consciousness, created from the thoughts of humans everywhere. It is not the driving force of life, however, for your own personal thoughts are the most powerful creative power in your life. Collective consciousness is but one influence in your life. It has no power over you unless you choose to believe it and thus give it power by making it real.
- Feeling – The language of the soul. If you want to know your truth about something, look to how you feel about it. Feelings are like wordless thoughts, incapable of being adequately described in words. For example, how do you describe Joy to someone? You really can’t. How do you define Love? Poets and songwriters have been trying for thousands of years and continue to do so to this day. Feelings arise from beyond the mind, from your true being within.
- Field – A localized area of energy. You, by your thoughts, words, and actions create a field of energy that attracts energy vibrating at similar frequencies.
- Force – A destructive energy which is a poor substitute of the constructive alternative of power. An example would be the use of intimidation and fear to attempt to control people. The energy of force is not sustainable and will eventually collapse under its own weight since its energy is finite and limited. Force is not an energy that produces lasting change or healthy results. For more information, read Power vs. Force.
- Future – An infinite set of possibilities that are chosen, attracted, and ultimately experienced in the Now. The future really only exists as a mental projection of a time outside the present, which is never actually accessible or experiencable. The mind will often imagine the future as being either better or worse than the present moment as a means to either escape the present moment or feed off of the pain and ego juice of anxiety and worry. In reality, all futures already exist and you attract unto yourself whichever future you choose to experience by virtue of who you’re being, the thoughts you think, the words you speak, the actions you take, and the beliefs you have about the world.
G
- God – You. Me. All That Is. Love. Peace. Joy. Oneness. The Creator and the Created. The Lightness and the Darkness. The High and the Low. The Alpha and the Omega. The entirety of the totality. God is not the big guy in the sky who judges humans and is filled with jealousy and vengeance. Rather, God is the infinite unconditional Love which accepts and loves you totally, just the way you are.
- Guarantee – Does not exist. Life unfolds as a set of potentials whereby anything can happen. Life is not like a play which has already been written and predetermined. Thus there are no guarantees in Life whatsoever.
H
- Habit – Something you’re not aware you’re doing. When you’re aware of what you’re doing, it then becomes a choice.
- Heart Chakra – The fourth chakra associated with self-acceptance, compassion, and love. Physically, this chakra is located in the thymus in the center of the chest. When this chakra is open, unconditional love radiates freely out into the world. Judgment is replaced with acceptance. Love and Joy are the dominant states of being.
- Healing – The process of accepting all outcomes and choosing the best. You can’t choose health if you reject illness because otherwise there would be nothing else to choose from. Accept everything. Reject nothing. Create that which you desire.
- Heaven – The experience of complete Oneness with All That Is. It is not a place “out there” with clouds and angels, but rather a place within, that exists within all of us, that is accessed by releasing all the blocks and resistances to Truth. It can be experienced during the transition of death when the separation falls away, as well as here on earth by merging back with the Oneness and choosing only Love.
- Hell – A place which doesn’t actually exist. There is no place that sinners are sent to and damned for all eternity. Rather, hell is something which can be experienced right here on earth. It is simply the result of choosing separation and fear over Oneness and Love. It is the net result of choosing to experience the opposite of what is. Hell is not knowing that You and God are One.
I
- I – When this pronoun is used correctly, it refers to the totality of the universe, the infinite allness of all that is, the singularity of consciousness. When this pronoun is used incorrectly, it refers to the personal self including the mind, body, and ego, separate from other people and the rest of the universe as an individual entity. What the I truly refers to is that which is beyond name and form.
- Ignorance – The illusion that humans don’t know the truth. At birth, they chose to forget who they are in order to recreate who they are. It is often seen as one of the fundamental limitations of the human mind, yet it is paradoxically one of the ultimate opportunities.
- Insufficiency – An illusion that there is not enough of something including money, love, God, food, land, etc.
- Intention – Holding something in mind and devoting to it. Under suitable karmic conditions, it tends to manifest.
- Intuition – Your sixth sense which detects your soul speaking to you. It comes in the form of feeling, non-verbal knowingness, hunches, dreams, and so on. Unlike the five senses which detect physical energies, your sixth sense picks up on nonphysical energies and thereby allows you to tap into the larger truths around you.
J
- Jealousy – Repressed envy. Envy is very okay and natural. It’s what makes a little child want to ride a bike like his big brother. It spurs desire and creation. When envy is repressed and considered bad or wrong, it turns into jealousy. For more information, read this post.
- Judgment – An illusion that God judges. A process performed by the ego to attempt to ensure its own survival and superiority. For more information, read this post.
K
- Karma – The idea that your thoughts and actions will have an effect on life in the future. It’s not about repaying karmic debts, being punished or rewarded for previous actions, or purification. Rather, it’s simply an effect of the process of creation whereby you experience life as reflected back to you based upon the energies and actions you put out in the world. Karma is not literally based upon the past, but upon the choices that you continue to make now. It’s all now. Even if you did something in the past, if that energy is still present in your field now, you will continue to experience the manifest result of that energy.
- Kundalini – The powerful energy that naturally rises up the spine like a snake as the chakras progressively open up. For more information, check out this site.
L
- Law of Attraction – The term used to denote the attractive nature of the universe in which like energies come together. By virtue of your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions, you are attracting certain people, opportunities, and circumstances into your life in order to create whatever experience you choose and thus create a new and more expansive version of yourself. For more information, read this post.
- Let Go – A process where you release the need, expectation, or craving sensation for anything to occur in order for you to feel good. By this process of surrender or releasing attachments, you let go of any resistances holding you back from experiencing what you choose, as well as release the energy within that prevents happiness and leads to inner struggle and pain. In a state of total let go, no matter what is happening in your external reality, you will experience complete inner peace and infinite love within. For more information, read this post.
- Life – A creation, not a discovery. A process, not a struggle. Life is a continuous process with no beginning and end. Birth and death go hand in hand with their respective transformation of energy, but life has no opposite. What we call life is God expressing himself. Life is God in action. You are not someone who has a life. You are not separate from life. You are Life itself.
- Linear – The physical realm in which things seem to happen sequentially and everything is subject to time. In the linear realm, we experience form, duality, separation, opposites, and all that is ultimately illusory.
M
- Manifestation – The transformation of energy from nonphysical to physical. You create what you want in your life, or manifest it, by first using the Law of Attraction or Process of Creation to attract to yourself whatever you wish. You then allow it to enter by releasing the blocks holding you back from the experience.
- Matrix – The linear realm of form and time. It is entirely subjective and appears different to everyone since its appearance is dependent upon perspective. In exactly the same way as a hologram appears to change when you look at it from a different angle, the way we perceive our physical reality depends on how we look at it. Unlike a hologram, however, the way you look at your reality will actually influence it to become that which you are seeing. Like the movie, The Matrix, it is entirely created within our minds and the rules don’t actually exist. Unlike how it is portrayed in the movie, however, ultimate reality beyond the Matrix is the infinite Love beyond time and space and the beingness of Oneness. It is what we would commonly refer to as heaven.
- Meaning – Nothing in life has any meaning except the meaning you give it. Ultimately, everything just it what it is. It doesn’t mean anything. When something happens to you, don’t ask why it happened. You get to choose the meaning. Decide its meaning. By doing this, you create your reality. Bear in mind, however, that this created reality is completely made up, as nothing actually means anything. The mind is a tool which allows you to assign meaning to a meaningless subject and thus create your reality.
- Meditation – A process whereby you disidentify from your mind and reconnect to the infinite energy within. There are many forms of meditation, but ultimately the goal is to shift your awareness from the changing world of form and duality to the ever-present totality of the universe. This is accomplished by quieting the mind, in one way or another, and reconnecting to your true source within. An excellent book on the subject with respect to enlightenment is True Meditation by Adyashanti.
- Mind – It is like an empty container for thoughts. A quiet mind is a mind with no/few thoughts. It is the thoughts themselves which are the illusion-creating, judging, labeling, thinking, categorizing, organizing, commenting, energy within that attempts to convince you that it is you. Incorrectly used, the mind takes you over, not unlike a parasite, and drives the host insane. Used properly, however, the mind is not taken seriously, the fears and anxieties are not actually listened to, and thoughts are used as a tool to create and ultimately let go of seeing as how they’re merely poor substitutes for life rather than the existence of life itself. The brain is a separate entity from the mind. The mind is a physical organ which sits in the skull. The mind is not limited to just the head. It actually exists throughout the whole body. You literally have a thinking body.
- Mission – Your life purpose, who you choose to be, the reason you came down here on earth, and how you intend on serving others with your unique qualities. This is something you get to choose for yourself, not something assigned to you by God. Everyone has a mission in life, and this can absolutely change many times and evolve over the course of a lifetime. Following through with your inner calling can help to a feeling of satisfaction, inner fulfillment, and a purpose of existence. We’re all here to experience life, to live life, fully, no exceptions. How do you intend on doing so?
N
- Need – An illusion that anyone, including God, needs anything in order to be happy, satisfied, or complete. You, as God, need nothing as well. The body may need something like food or water or air to continue its survival, but who you really are is not subject to birth or death. There is nothing you need to continue existing. You will always be.
- Nonattachment – Experiencing and enjoying something without clinging to it as something which makes you happy or fulfills a particular need. You are free to experience something in the moment and just as easily let it go and let it flow without resistance. Nonattachment is like driving down the street in a car. One tree momentarily pops into your awareness and as quickly as it enters, it is let go of which allows the next tree to step into your awareness. Treating all of life this easily is nonattachment.
- Nonduality – A truth in ultimate reality which states that nothing has an opposite. Everything simply is. Hot and cold are not opposites, but merely arbitrarily selected points on an infinite scale. Similarly, nothing is good or bad. It simply is what it is. In the non-linear realm, Love is all there is. No illusions such as the illusion of duality exist in the nondualistic spiritual realm beyond the mind and ego.
- Nonexistence – Nothingness. The ego fears that if it is completely dissolved, there will be nothing left. With the total dissolution of the personal self comes the experience of the Allness of existence. The idea of nonexistence is a mentally created opposite to existence and thus, is not an actual reality. Nevertheless, the belief in nonexistence can create the experience of nonexistence, in exactly as the belief in a hell which doesn’t exist can create the experience of it. In ultimate reality, All That Is is exactly that. There is nothing beyond the Allness. Nothingness, nonexistence, does not exist.
- Nonjudgmental – A way of being that arises from beyond the mind. Rather than judging and condemning people, you can opt to accept and love people just as they are. Judgmentalism arises from the mind. Nonjudgmentalism shines forth from the heart. This is a key aspect of compassion and is a signature of God. God doesn’t judge. Only the ego judges. For more information, read this post.
- Non-linear – The spiritual realm of beingness beyond time and space. In this realm, everything exists simultaneously including that which we call past and the possibilities which we call future. Everything that can be created already exists. In the non-linear realm, there is a knowingness of everything simply because you are everything.
- Now – The present moment. Past and future do not exist other than as mental projections. The Now moment is the source of your true power. Any time you leave the Now by going into mind, the ego is looking for an escape for it can’t exist in the Now. For more information, read the book The Power of Now.
O
- Oneness – Another way to describe God. All That Is. The Totality. The One Oneness of Being. The One Thing That Is. It’s all the same. One without a second. Non-dual.
- Ownership – The idea that something belongs to you. In truth, ownership is a mental construction and nothing more meaning it’s completely made up and doesn’t exist. The air that is now in your lungs is not “your” air, but merely the air you are temporarily using. In just a moment you will return it to the world. Similarly, the body you have is temporarily on loan for however many years so that you can experience physicality. The idea of ownership stems from the ego’s desire to control and hold onto something stable in a world that is inherently unstable and subject to continuous change. Trying to own a person, such as a spouse or child, may seem like it’s based in love and safety, but it’s actually based in fear and control. Love is freedom. Ownership is symptomatic of fear.
P
- Painbody – An energetic entity within the body that feeds off of the pain and suffering of life. For more information, read the book The Power of Now.
- Passion – The love of transforming being into action. Doingness is beingness, expressed. Passion is the fire that drives us to express who we are. Do not deny passion. Rather, let go of expectations and attachment to results. This is freedom.
- Past – An illusion which exists in our minds of events and experiences that we may or may not have been aware of, earlier in time. If life is a painting where everything exists Now, the past would simply be the section of the painting you have already looked at and experienced. It hasn’t gone anywhere. It all still exists now. Rather, your awareness is on another portion of the painting of life.
- Patience – Knowing what you want, knowing that it’s coming, and enjoying its unfoldment along the way.
- Perfection – The state of everyone and everything in every moment. Imperfection does not exist. By analogy, an acorn is not an imperfect tree but a perfect acorn. A horizontal log is not an imperfect vertical tree, but a perfect horizontal law. Everything is exactly what it is in a state of utter perfection. What may appear bad or wrong is simply a perfect example of creation creating itself as that. The idea of it being somehow imperfect is simply an egoic judgment with the claim that things should be different than they are.
- Pleasure – Anything which makes the ego happy. True Love and Joy arise from beyond the ego, but simple pleasure is something which makes the ego happy, at least temporarily.
- Power – An energy that is constructive to life, as opposed to force which is destructive towards life. Examples of power include acceptance, courage, love, and joy. For more information, read Power vs. Force.
- Presence – The feeling that arises when you’re in a state of complete awareness of this moment. Rather than being lost in thought, your awareness and consciousness is right here in the Now. You’re present. In this state, you experience the infinite peace of Being. This peace is Presence. For more information, read this post.
- Pride – The highest level of destructive levels of consciousness based upon the ego’s desire to feel important and superior. The military calibrates at the level of pride. For more information, read this post.
- Projection – When you look at something through the eyes of the ego, that is you use the mind to judge and label and put into little boxes, you are no longer looking at the essence of what something truly is. Rather, you are looking at how it appears to you. The two are vastly different. Now, the way you perceive the world is subject to the way you believe the world could be. Anything that’s too far outside your model of the world is typically beyond comprehension. When you have a belief such as “Rich people are greedy” and you see a rich person, you automatically assume he is greedy. You’re not looking at the truth and underlying essence of the objects you see, but rather looking through your own personal filters and projecting your beliefs onto the world. The mind will then look for confirming evidence, feel right and therefore justified in choosing this belief and position, and ultimately create a reality in which all they see is this belief, manifested.
Q
- Quantum Leap – A massive creation which comes about due to a very intense desire. A mother single-handedly lifting a car off her trapped child is such an example. They are not achieved by changing your belief about something, but rather enhancing the desire for a result. These leaps are not sustainable and thus temporary so you will come back to where you were before. However, they are one method to create massive action or manifest something tremendous.
R
- Reincarnation – The process of being born again in another body for the next lifetime, to use normal languaging. More accurately, your vibrational frequency adjusts from that of the spiritual realm to that of the physical realm. Additionally, you “break yourself up” from the Oneness into a three part being consisting of a mind, physical body, and individual soul. Upon death, these three parts fall away and you merge back into One. However, the idea of reincarnation is limited to sequential linear time where past and future are real. All lives exist right now. Instead of reincarnation, they should more accurately be called multiple simultaneous incarnations. We have the ability to tune into other lives and gain access to the knowledge and wisdom developed during those lifetimes should we choose to do so.
- Remember – What we’re actually doing with ourselves and with life. We’re not here to learn lessons or learn anything new. We already know everything. We ARE everything. We are the very universe itself, all that is. Now, we have forgotten who we are in order to experience both who we are and who we are not. Here in the world of the relative, we need to experience opposites in order to fully understand that which is. Because it’s impossible to not be that which you are, the next best thing is to forget. You have forgotten that you are Love, and thus get to experience both fear and Love. By experiencing both you will begin to remember who you really are. Life is about experiencing who you are, not knowing who you are. On a deep level, you already know. The soul already knows. It is here to experience that which it already knows. It’s one thing to know something conceptually. It’s entirely different to actually experience yourself, and thus be, that which you know yourself to be. You are here to remember who you are. Who are you? You are God.
- Requirement – An illusion that it is necessary to do something in order to make God happy. The reasoning is that if you don’t do what God wants, you’ll be punished and be subject to everlasting damnation. Thus, God’s love is conditional. No, there is nothing you need to be or do to please God or make God happy. God’s Love for you is truly unconditional. That is, there is nothing you need to do to earn God’s love, nor is there anything you could possibly do to stop Him from loving you! There are no requirements. There’s nothing you are required to do to get into heaven. The entire universe is heaven. It’s only a question of if you are aware of it or not. There are no requirements to get in.
- Resistance – The ego’s method of maintaining its existence. The source of all suffering. By saying no to something or pushing against it, you actually cement it in place. That which you resist, persists. Going into the mind and escaping the present moment by going into the past or future, mentally, is a form of resistance. Any time you’re experiencing a negative sensation or feeling anything other than complete peace and ease with life, you know there’s something you’re resisting, perhaps consciously or unconsciously. All resistance comes through the mind. The heart knows no resistance. Resistance is what blocks what you want from entering your life. The first step to creation is first creating it. The second step is to allow it to enter into your life. Letting go of resistance is one of the most transformative things you can do for yourself. For more information, read this post.
- Roots – If you were to imagine roots extending from the base of your spine, deep into the earth, and pulling up mother earth’s nurturing energy, this will help keep you grounded. These roots give you a sense of presence and are often used as imagery to help open the root chakra.
- Root Chakra – The first chakra located at the base of the spine. This chakra, when opened and balanced, keeps you grounded and centered. This chakra has to do with survival and safety issues, feeling connected to the earth, and feeling welcome in the world.
S
- Sacral Chakra – The sacral chakra located about two inches below the belly button. It is associated with emotions, sex, manifestation, trusting the universe, and feeling enough. When the chakra is closed, a person will try to control everything in their reality and not be open to assistance. They will often feel inferior and unworthy. When the chakra is opened and balanced, they will be flowing in alignment with the universe and working with it.
- Salvation – The idea that you need to accept Jesus to be saved and get into heaven. Heaven is everywhere. There is no where else you can be now or after death. You never left heaven so you can’t get into heaven in the first place. How can you get into a place you never left? In reality, “salvation” is be “saved” from the illusions and every false thought you ever had about yourself. Salvation is knowing and understanding completely that You and God are One.
- Satan – A man-made invention people made up to scare people into doing what they wanted, under the threat of separation from God if they didn’t. If Satan were to represent something, it would exist as every thought you ever had of separation from God. You can’t be separate from God, for God is All That Is.
- Self – With a captial “S”, Self represents the One Self of All That Is. There is no other Self but you. You literally are God and there is no separation.
- self – With a lower case “s”, self represents the individual self composed of the mind, body, and ego. It is a separate being complete with opinions and beliefs that differentiate it from others. In reality, each self is simply one part of the total Self. By analogy, each finger, though different in appearance and function, is part of the same larger hand. The many selves are part of the same Self.
- Self-acceptance – One of the healthiest things you could ever do for yourself. It is by accepting yourself fully as you are, you come to a state of being totally okay, completely at peace. It is from this state of peace that the true power of who you are arises. It is only when you release the chains holding you down that you’re free to move in any direction. The trick is to first accept yourself fully as you are. Then you’re free to make changes easily and effectively. It is only when you accept the flaws in yourself that you can accept the same flaws in others. By not accepting something, you resist it and therefore lock it in place. By accepting it at looking at it totally, you dissolve it and let it go. It is only through acceptance that healing occurs. It is only through acceptance that true transformation is possible.
- Self-improvement – An ego-based methodology saying, “I’m not okay as I am right now. I’m not good enough right now so I’m going to change and improve myself in order to become something better. THEN I’ll be okay and only then will I be happy. I’m not happy with who I am now and need to improve myself somehow.” By doing this, you are perpetually putting yourself in a place with not being okay with who you are. Even if you do reach your target, you will create another target to reach and again make yourself in sufficient and feel that you’re not enough. This is the pathway to continual striving and everlasting struggle within. Inner struggle can only lead to outer struggle. “As within, so without.”
- Separation – The idea, which is 100% completely and totally false with no exception, that you are somehow separate from God. You are a part of God, not apart from God. Separation theology is fundamental to many religions today and this leads to the idea that you have to get back to God. Considering you never left God and that you are God, this is a pretty impossible task. Separation consciousness and the idea that we are not all One is at the core of virtually all pain and suffering in the world. The reality is that We Are All One. Different, yes. Diverse, certainly. Separate, no. We are all One Humanity, One Earth, One Being. We Are.
- Silence – Silence is the song of the soul. Be aware of the infinite silence and you will feel the presence of God.
- Sin – A myth created to justify the idea of a punitive God. This angry God needs something to be angry about and thus gets angry when people sin. The belief in an angry, jealous God has lead to the idea of humans inherently imperfect and subject to mistakes. A little child learning to walk and stumbling over is cute, not subject to endless torture and punishment. The child is encouraged to get up and try again. The same is true with humans who are still trying to figure out who they are, their place in the world, and how to Love. God is a loving, peaceful, compassionate, and patient God, always here to encourage you to stand up and try again. There is no sin, no real mistake, no possibility of wrong doing. Life is not about being forgiven for sin, but rather about experiencing the myriad of possibilities and opportunities open to us. No choice is better than another, but some are more in alignment with Love than others. Nowhere in this equation, however, does sin enter the field.
- Solar Plexus Chakra – The third chakra which represents inner power and personal strength. When this chakra is opened and balanced, the person will stand up for themsleves and won’t put up with any abuse from others.
- Solar Plexus Hits – A tugging sensation detected in the solar plexus whenever someone lies to you, attacks you, or tries to suck energy from you. Your solar plexus is an excellent lie detector.
- Soul – The energy of life that exists within and around all physical objects. It is your personalized and individual “part” of God. It is a part of God, not apart from God. It is like a wave atop the ocean. It is a part of the ocean, yet it is the very ocean itself. It seems like it’s separate, yet it is the totality.
- Spirituality – Simply realizing who you are beyond name and form. It is the recognition of Divinity within you. It is inclusive of all rather than exclusive to few. It is about raising your level of consciousness and connecting to your heart. It is about first knowing Oneness, then experiencing Oneness, and ultimately being Oneness. There are no rules or obligations, only opportunities. It is not a religion or a pathway to heaven. It’s a realization that you are already in heaven for heaven is within. There is nothing you have to do or no one else you have to be except who you’re being right now. You are perfect, just as you are.
- Stillness – The world is 99% stillness and 1% form. It is because of the infinite silence of the forest that you can hear the sweet song of a bird chirping. If the forest was filled with noise, it would be impossible to hear anything in particular. When you focus on the content of life, you’re missing the largest part of reality. It is is the stillness of life that peace is revealed. It is from the depth of your heart that true Love arises. Neglect the stillness and you are missing out on the grandest part of life. It is from the stillness that all movement appears. This is the Source. This is who you are. You are the stillness that is aware of the flow.
- Student syndrome – Sometimes when a person finds a teacher or guru or someone he really respects, he’ll put the new teacher up on a pedestal and practically worship the teacher. The problem with this is that the student is making himself feel inferior with respect to the teacher and eventually begins to resent giving his power away. To take his power back, the student will then turn on the teacher and begin angrily fighting with, condemning, or poking holes in the teacher’s teachings in order to feel superior once again. This whole thing can be avoided by realizing that superiority does not exist. Just because someone has a certain skill does not make them any better. Chances are, you have another skill which you have developed more than the teacher. It is only the ego which ranks and judges these skills as more or less desirable than others. Everyone is equally worthy, equally special, and magnificently wonderful. Different does not imply better or worse, only different.
- Suffering – A judgment that says pain is wrong or imperfect and thus places a resistance upon it. For example, a mother’s pain in childbirth is perceived as a wonderful thing and despite the pain, it is not seen as suffering.
- Superiority – An illusion created by the ego. It believes that differences can imply better or worse. Good and bad are simply judgments and have no basis in ultimate reality. A tall tree is no better than a short tree. It is simply taller. Love is no better than fear. It’s just more loving.
- Surrender – A constant process of not resisting or clinging to any moment and releasing every belief, thought, desire, attachment, impulse, positionality, and judgment in order to disidentify from the ego. This is the pathway of nonresistance. Following this path leads to the mind growing quiet and the autonomous presence of inner peace and unconditional love. Without the clouds of the mind, the light of your being shines through unobstructed. For more information, read this post.
- Synchronicity – The experience of having things in life happen seemingly magically. It’s as if things just fit. Problems work themselves out. You think about a person and they happen to call you a moment later. It’s as if what’s happening is your inner reality of thoughts is literally synchronized with your outer reality of form and content. Ultimately, there is no duality between inner and outer and it is all one. The “time” it takes for things to manifest is simply a function of how much resistance you’re giving and the amount of resistance you’re offering is determined by how much “mind stuff” is in the way. By quieting the mind through surrender, acceptance, observation, awareness, and nonresistance, the blocks of the mind start to dissolve. The differences between your inner and outer world start to operate in sync. That is, the operate synchronistically. You can tell how close you are to mastery by how long it takes for your thoughts and intentions to manifest in your external reality.

- The World Is Your Mirror – Whenever you find yourself angry about a certain characteristic in another person, it is because they are reflecting back to you something which you are not comfortable with about yourself. If someone told you you had 18 toes, it wouldn’t bother you one bit because it’s not true. You know it’s not true. However, If someone called you a jerk or a liar or a bastard and that bothers you, they’ve just given you a gift. They’ve shown you something inside of you that needs to be healed. Similarly, when you look at the particular qualities of someone you admire, you’re actually seeing projections of your underdeveloped strengths. Since the world is your mirror, you can’t actually change the world by changing the mirror. You have to change yourself, accept yourself, heal yourself, and you’ll automatically start to accept what you see in the mirror. Your external reality is changed by focusing on your internal reality. Outer peace is created by first achieving inner peace.
- Third Eye – The sixth chakra located between your eyebrows which is responsible for your intuition and psychic abilities. This chakra is responsible for your connection with your higher Self and being able to see the various levels of reality more clearly.
- Thoughts – You know that little voice in your head? If you just said to yourself, “What little voice?” THAT’S the voice! Your thoughts are the mind’s way of interpreting reality. They are designed to break apart that which is continuous, to separate that which is one, and to create illusion where there is only reality in order to fully experience and appreciate that which is real. Thoughts are a helpful tool and are a key component of the process of creation. It is a tool to be used BY you, but it would be incorrect to say that the thoughts ARE you.
- Throat Chakra – The fifth chakra located in the throat. This chakra is associated to speaking your truth. Even holding back what you have to say can close the throat chakra. A person with an open throat chakra will be open to freely saying what now needs to be said.
- Time – An invention of God, allowing you to see all that has been created one piece at a time. It is something you pass through and notice sequentially while it exists in all spaces simultaneously. Time doesn’t move. You do. When you drive down the street, the world doesn’t move, you do. The fact that the world looks like it’s moving around you is simply a matter of perspective. Really, you’re moving through space. You’re moving through time. All of life exists like a massive mural. We experience sequentially, one part of the mural at a time. Our awareness is limited in this respect. What we call time is the sequentially unfolding awareness of that which exists simultaneously.
- Transcend – To go beyond and enhance. To transcend something does not necessarily mean to destroy what is currently believed or understood and adopt something entirely new. It simply means to set it down like a toy you’re finished playing with. When you obtain all the experiences you chose to experience, be it fear or doubt or separation consciousness, when you’re ready to move on to bigger and more expansive things, you can set down your old ideas, perhaps keep what you found actually works, and let go of what no longer works. It’s about expanding who you are.
- Truth – A completely subjective reality. There is no such thing as THE Truth, only YOUR Truth. Truth has no opposite. Nothing in ultimate reality has an opposite. Falsehood is simply the lack of truth, not the opposite of truth. Similarly, darkness is the absence of light, not the opposite of light. You can fill a room with darkness. You can only block the light. You can’t create that which is false, only withhold truth. You can’t experience the opposite of that which has no opposite, but you can believe that you can. Truth is an entirely subjective perception of reality and different for every person. Thus it is wise for you to learn how to find your own truth. The way to do this is to look at your own life experience, to quiet your mind and learn to listen to and trust your intuition, and to feel what your soul desires.
U
- Unconditional Love - This is the goal for the majority of spiritually committed people. It is far easier to experience than enlightenment and is what Jesus taught that people strive for. Love thy neighbor as thyself. Unconditional Love is something give to everyone and everything without condition, without needing a reason to earn or deserve the Love. Similarly, there is nothing that could be done to make the person stop Loving you. Be annoyed with or angry with, certainly. But not stop Loving. Unconditional Love requires that you surrender your ego’s holds on reality such as the desire to be right. This Love needs nothing from people. It only has itself to give and it’s given freely with no strings attached.
- Unsolicited Advice – Narcissistic and condescending unasked for advice based upon the ego’s desire to control others, to be “right”, and to feel superior, masked as “constructive criticism”. Unsolicited advice has no honor for the path people are choosing. Everyone is exactly where they need to be, at their own present level of consciousness. The moment we tell people what they “should” be doing with their own lives is the moment we’ve stepped into ego-superiority, cleverly disguised as “I’m only trying to HELP!”. Save YOURSELF instead.
V
- Vibration – Everything in the universe, at the most fundamental level is composed of energy. In physics these vibrations are referred to as “strings.” The physical qualities on a macroscopic level are determined by the frequency of vibration. For example, a sad person would be vibrating very slowly. A very happy person would be vibrating very quickly, with their whole being. We could even say they have “great vibes!” There are many ways of raising your vibration including meditation, prayer, singing, or even simply choosing to do so.
- Void – If you follow the pathway of negation as taught by Buddhism where you negate everything because it’s all an illusion, you’ll ultimately wind up at the void, the unmanifest reality prior to all form. The void is experiencable through deep meditation or during the process of death, if that’s what you believe what will happen. Now, just because you can experience it doesn’t make it real. You can experience fear even though all fear is an illusion. The mistake with following the pathway of negation is that you also negate that which is real including Love and God. God is All That Is and there is nowhere where God isn’t. Even empty space is not truly empty, but we could say that the energy that makes up God is “less dense” in space. That does not imply non-God. The void is a mentally created thing based upon the mistaken belief that there is an opposite to God.
W
- Will – All humans have free will, the will to be whomever they choose to be. God’s will for you is your will for you because you and God are One. It is impossible for you to do anything to thrwart God’s will. There is no punishment for exercising a certain aspect of your free will. Believing there is makes a mockery out of free will and renders it counterfiet. That’s obedience, not opportunity. There are those who believe that the bad things that happen to you, “well, it’s God’s will that I experience this.” By doing this, you give up responsibility of creating your own reality as you simultaneously render yourself powerless as a creator. Now some people advocate choosing to live in alignment with Love by surrendering your personal will consisting of ego-based desires and choosing to follow God’s will. Bear in mind that this is still using your own free will and you’re basically choosing to listen to your heart and soul. Rather than going to the mind for decision-making, you make decisions on a higher level by listening to your soul’s deepest desires and allowing the body to move in accordance with this without going to the mind to judge whether it’s safe or a good idea. You simply act, mindlessly. This is choosing to listen to your soul’s desires (God’s will) which is still following your free will. You can’t be controlled by your soul. Your soul is one aspect of you and thus you’re not handing over your power to anyone else. There is no one else but you. Really, you are simply choosing Love at any and every outcome without exception. For more information, read this.
- Worry – The unwillingness to surrender. It’s a mental game of going into the future and imaginging the many “what if’s” which is a deeply unproductive and detrimental activity. It falls under the guise of “being prepared” for what’s to come, but it’s nothing more than the ego juicing fear, a choice to not live in the Now, a feeling of not trusting the universe, and ultimately fear of death. When you can accept death fully, all fears including worry will dissolve for fear of death is at the root of all the rest of the fears.
Y
- Yang – Masculine energy. It is associated with all that is unchanging, solid, outward flowing, meditative, proactive, and death. At its core, the masculine energy most deeply wants to be successful and accomplish a life mission.
- Yin – Feminine energy. It is associated with all that is changing, flowing, inward flowing, expressive, creative, and life. At its core, the feminine energy most deeply wants to be loved.
- Yoga – The word itself translated simply means Union.
