Thank you for writing this! I'm currently healing myself after a painful breakup, and this post has given me some small measure of peace. I can see how even though we were both looking at the same relationship, we were seeing it from different perspectives and (mis)perceptions. In retrospect, I suppose that should have been obvious, but I'm not always good with the obvious :). Thank you for helping me see it!

Not to mention the different ideas or associations we have about the moon. Logically speaking, you're looking at the same moon--that is, "the one that orbits Earth," but you'll still have unique comprehensions and even images of it.

I remember one time, looking at my cat, thinking "aww, how cute." And then my perception shifted, and instead of seeing it as a cute kitty cat pet with a bell around its neck, I saw it as a part of nature, a CAT, and not only a cat but THIS CAT. So for a second I stopped seeing my idea of the kitty and saw what it for what it really was. There was a distinct difference, very much as though a veil had been lifted. Even as I looked at the same object, it showed itself in two different ways. (And ever since then, whenever I see my cat for what it is and not as my cute little pet, he's been more loving toward me and wanting to be around me. How cool!)

Come to think of it, I wonder if you ever see the same thing twice... I bet you don't. :lol

Ah yeah, I see what you're saying, Marko. Meaninglessness, in the context I was using it, is about whether or not something is good or bad and whatnot.

I like your perspective as well, which is basically that the meaning of everything is just to be itself and express itself in living form. Very simple. :)

Onederfully articulated Ariel. Again reinstates for me that we are perfectly imperfect and imperfectly perfect.

Of course as we advance and grow so does our definition of perfection and imperfection. I am of course talking of the physical and spiritual mix that is the perfectly imperfect divine called the human experience.

I would not say Reality is meaningless. The meaning of life is that it grows and sustains itself. A seed becomes a flower, tree, person etc. That's its meaning. Or one aspect of meaning. A clean slate? Not sure about that. You need paint and colours to create your painting.

Yet there is the blank canvas. I get that, but you do need the canvas, the paint and the tools to create the painting. :meditate

Hiya

what a great read!
I think your statement (so good i've pasted it here) reveals a foundational belief behind any useful changes a person makes: 'Everything is inherently meaningless which affords us the tremendous creative opportunity to choose to plaster on top of what happens whatever meaning we want and thus experience the effect of that choice.'

The quote '...when you give the world its freedom, you will find yours.' was for me a beautiful reflection upon the insights of my meditation. Glad I found your blog! Thanks.
Jens

Thank you, Ariel, for your brilliant perspective and interpretation! I 'thought' I had come a long way before reading your site, and I have, but your carefully crafted words have helped me realize that I could let go even more than I 'thought' possible and I'm getting closer to the abiding state all the time!
You've given so many great, clear descriptions here that speak to my heart! I love "getting a reflection back of their own perceptions and belief systems" and especially "when you give the world its freedom, you will find yours", a poeticly profound and beautiful statement which will go with my Eckhart and Deepak and Gopi quotes! I have Ariel quotes now too!
Gratitude for your special way of relating these experiences to the world in a way that help people get closer to experiencing it for themselves. Words may always be only signs, but you are making the signage a lot easier to read and follow!
Namaste
