The Mind Has NO Capacity To Actually Discern Truth

The mind that we have has absolutely ZERO capacity to recognize absolute Truth. People blindly put their faith into a tool which is fundamentally flawed.

The mind is designed to look at appearance not essence, and as we all know, appearances can be deceiving. From a technical standpoint, the mind works only in the dualistic domain of beliefs, not in the non-linear domain of infinite knowingness. To give you an example, the ego/mind can look at a piece of food and guess if it looks healthy or not depending on various characteristics and past experiences, but it can’t determine without a doubt, for SURE, whether or not this particular piece of food is ACTUALLY “good” for you.

The mind is designed to assist us in creating illusory realities, as mentioned previously, not in actually determining Truth.

You see, all thinking IS the ego. Thinking then uses thinking to support itself because it has no fundamental foundation holding itself up other than itself.

It’s a lot like trying to reach back and lift yourself up by the back of your shirt. The illusion is that you can actually lift yourself up off the ground, that the arm has the ability to lift up the body, that our supporting beliefs are supported by something solid and can therefore support other beliefs thanks to the solid connection to the ground.

Each of our beliefs are supported by other beliefs which are supported by yet other beliefs which, if you trace them all the way back to their roots, aren’t actually supported by anything at all!

To actually prove this to yourself, use the How Do You Know Method and the Arguing Both Sides Method, both of which are discussed in the book The Most Direct Means To Eternal Bliss, a book that focuses on a direct path to enlightenment without all the fluff.

Stop and run through both of the exercises now. I assure you that you will get MUCH more value out of actually doing those two exercises for yourself than simply agreeing or disagreeing with anything I have to say here.

Reading book after book about religion or enlightenment is not the path that leads to liberation. Learning about spiritual concepts, intellectualizing, and discussing spiritual truths with the idea that if you can just understand it enough you’ll finally get it is still just a mind game used by the ego for its own self-preservation, no matter how wise and prolific the words may seem.

The most beautiful description about the taste of chocolate is still not the taste of chocolate. The description won’t do you much good when your mouth is watering and you’re craving a delicious bite.

As the saying goes, “The finger pointing to the moon is not the moon.”

By getting you to focus on the words and descriptions and then debate them with others, the ego is able to prevent you from focusing on the reality beyond the words. It is a subtle trick that continues to trap many people, including many sincere spiritual aspirants.

Seeing through all beliefs and mental creations, seeing the reality beyond all mind-made symbols, is the essence of experiencing Truth, of BEING Truth beyond all experience. It’s about being this moment, this EXACT moment, without all the added mentation superimposed on top of what is, without replacing what is with a mind-made image (a graven image) or perception of what is.

To continue using this metaphor, most people aren’t actually looking at the moon. They’re really looking at the numerous fingers pointing towards the moon and then wondering which finger best represents the moon.

What happens is even when they look directly at the moon, the mind automatically starts categorizing it, identifying it by name, putting it into a little mental box alongside other memories and experiences of when they previously looked at the moon, recalling facts about the moon, wondering if it’s actually made of cheese, and so on. There’s this whole mental world spinning around which is what people are focused on. Their attention is not fully one with what’s being observed, but rather the mental phenomena that arise regarding the object.

None of the mental whatevers are necessary for you to purely experience the moon as it is in this moment. The key is to look, just look, without any additional mental commentary. Rest as awareness, without adding an additional layer of mental gobbledy-gook. It’s a laser-focused awareness on exactly what’s arising in this exact moment, and even being aware of the awareness that is aware of what is arising. This is called being on the razor’s edge of the Now moment.

If you were to drop all the beliefs about yourself and simply be yourself, who would you be?

Who would you be without any mind-made sense of identity, without focusing so strongly on the story of you?

Of course you’d still be you, whoever “you” are, but who would you be?

What would the world be like when we simply looked at what’s deeper than any story or truth that could ever be told?
