Letting the Stream of Consciousness Flow

Category   Ego, Love

Typing on a LaptopA few weeks back I was hanging out with Marie and we were just talking about things. I really enjoy talking to her because not only is she one of the people in the area I can talk to about more advanced topics, but she also challenges me beyond my current level and brings up fantastic questions and insights into my own understandings, deepening both our realizations in the process. We make a good team bouncing topics off one another or even just sitting in silence together.

Something we realized that the both of us had in common was that it tends to be easier to get things out through writing than by saying it on the fly. So she grabbed her laptop and I began typing.

There was no point to what I was writing. Nowhere to go. Most importantly, we deliberately made it NOT about teaching and playing that role, but allowing the stream of consciousness to flow naturally wherever it went.

In fact, this was designed to be a totally personal writing, something that wouldn’t be published when I finished. That was the intention when writing.

It turns out that what came through turned out to be kinda cool and now I feel like sharing. :)

A Story of Compassion

I’m going to tell you a story. It’s a true story about a woman who once attended my workshops, and is on a spiritual path like all of you. This woman was walking alone in Central Park in New York City at night. A man jumped out from behind the bushes, put a gun to her head, and started raping her. She looked deeply into this man’s eyes, and she could see he was overcome with fear and incredible pain. She began gently stroking his face. “It’s ok,” she said “It’s ok. It’s ok. I love you.” The man stopped immediately and broke into tears. “No one has ever told me they loved me,” he said. “Ever. Not even my parents.” This woman’s compassion touched this man so deeply that it changed his whole life. “This park is dangerous,” he said. “I’ll walk with you and keep you safe.

- David Deida

Wow…

Imagine a person that rooted in Love that even something as intense as being raped can’t shake them from their core of being.

Unconditional Love. Yeah baby!

Do you think you could respond in this way in the heat of the moment? Can you think of another way to respond that is also rooted in Love?

Happy Thanksgiving ’08! Gobble gobble gobble!

Category   Uncategorized

Happy Thanksgiving to you All!

It is such a joy to interact with all of you, to hear from you, and to see you all truly being yourselves.

You are the Divine and it is such a magnificent experience to witness the Divinity within you all expressing itself.

Thank you God, the same God that is within you and within me, for it is really all the same God since we are all One. The appreciation I feel is not something that necessarily needs to be sent “out there” for there is no out here. This appreciation I feel is sitting right here, resonating with me, being me, for it is me.

I am immensely appreciative for each and every one of you choosing to be yourselves and realizing more and more who you really are.

I am simultaneously grateful for the acceptance and openness you all have given me in allowing me to be myself around you.

Thank you for your Love, for your Beingness, and for your Time and Energy.

Playing with each and every one of you is such a wonderful gift and for this I am most appreciative.

My Unconditional Love to you all. :)

Non-Dualistic Love Is All

Category   God, Love, Non-duality

True Love is non-dualistic.

There is no opposite to Love. Fear is not an opposite to Love, but rather a resistance to Love. Fear is the energy of Love filtered through the mind, distorted, and then resisted. The emotion experienced we call fear.

There are no Lovers or Lovees. There is only Love. Love is All That Is.

When they say “God is Love” and “Love is the only Truth,” this is what they mean. God is All That Is. Love is All That Is. You are All That Is.

You are God. You are Love. You are the Infinite.

You are not just this separate human being bouncing around over here. You are everything.

Love, because it is everything and everyone, applies to everyone and everything. This is called Unconditional Love.

If the love is unconditional for this person, but not for that person, we’re not talking about true Unconditional Love. Like the light of the sun, Unconditional Love shines upon everyone equally, regardless of if you’re a “good person” or a “bad person.” Unconditional Love withholds from no one.

You Are The Reality You Think You Live In

The Beginning by Marc Adamus, www.marcadamus.com
The Beginning by Marc Adamus

One of the main aspects of spiritual growth is the realization that you actually ARE the reality you previously thought you lived IN.

For example, at first, we feel that we find love by getting it from other people. When we feel loved by others, that is when we experience love.

Then we can move to a state where we are literally “in love” with someone. It’s literally like you and I are bathing within the warm glow of love itself.

And then we find that this Love can actually be experienced with everyone and everything. This Love then becomes unconditional. We become “in love” with it All!

Yet once we start inquiring as to where this Love actually comes from in the first place, we realize that it’s not coming from outside of us at all! It’s actually coming from within. The Source of Love is within.

Dive down even further and you’ll realize that not only is the Source within you, but you actually ARE this Source. You ARE Love itself. Everything you say, everything you do, and everything you are is simply a physical expression of the Love that you are.

Ascension is realizing that you actually ARE the reality you previously thought you lived IN.

You don’t exist in physical reality. Physical reality exists WITHIN YOU! You ARE physical reality!

There really is no reality outside of you. You actually ARE All That Is. It is all you. You are that.

What we perceive in physical reality is nothing more than a collection of props, a projection of the mind, a big illusion.

What is real is the EXPERIENCE you’re having, not the props that appear within the experience.

You are consciousness experiencing consciousness, awareness becoming aware of awareness, the Self realizing the Self.

The one who seeks enlightenment is the enlightened one seeking itself.

The experience we call Life is God experiencing God.

You actually ARE everything you think you live IN.

This realization is so profound that one of Nisargadatta’s excellent books is titled I Am That. (You can find excerpts and highlights from the book here.)

You are not within anything, including physical reality. You ARE physical reality.

You are not IN love. You ARE Love.

You are not IN God. You ARE God.

You ARE All That Is.

I AM That, I AM.

Non-Duality Includes Duality

Non-duality is about inclusion, not exclusion. Non-duality seems to run contrary to duality. Non-duality (not two) says that All That Is is One.

The One is the All. The All are the One.

So how does duality fit into this?

Duality is the fundamental basis of separation, that there are many individual separate things. “This over here is me, but that over there is not.” While duality is not the ultimate truth at all, it is still a witnessable reality in a sense, is it not?

The All are the One. The One is All That Is.

If Non-duality didn’t include Duality within it, it wouldn’t be All That Is.

If All That Is didn’t include both the light AND the dark, it wouldn’t be ALL That Is. It would be Half-of-What-Could-Be.

Everything exists everywhere in the Universe simultaneously. It is omnipresent.

To experience physical reality, we basically put a filter over the Infinite to limit what we see, like putting on a pair of colored sunglasses. We vibrationally stand in a place which gives us a unique perspective to see various aspects of the infinite, a particular manifestation of All That Is. Playing with that vibration is the essence of the Law of Attraction. It’s a lot like looking at a hologram. It all exists now, but the version of the hologram you see depends upon the direction you are looking from.

What Is Surrender?

Surrender. It is easily one of the most important aspects of spirituality. It is synonymous with letting go and allowing. The hallmark of surrender is the giving up of resistance. It’s a being transparent to energy that is passing through you.

If surrender is so important, what is it, really?

Let’s look at a variety of definitions from a number of spiritual teachers to make sure we’re very clear on what surrender is all about.

The traditional sense of surrender includes a sense of loss and defeat, a place of weakness and inability, a choice to end the experience and exit the journey. In a spiritual context, surrender means something very different. It’s something applied while fully engaged with the experience rather than an end to it.

Surrender

sur⋅ren⋅der -- verb -- to yield (something) to the possession or power of another; deliver up possession of on demand or under duress

-Dictionary.com

Let’s examine some spiritual perspectives of surrender. True surrender is not just an action, but a way of being in the world.

“What is the secret of your serenity?” asked a student.

“Wholehearted cooperation with the inevitable.” said the Master.

-Anthony DeMello

Our buddy Deepak would like to chime in here.

With surrender, passion is directed toward life itself--in spiritual terms, passion is the same as letting yourself be swept away on the river of life, which is eternal and neverending in its flow. The final fruit of surrender is ecstasy: when you can let go of all selfish attachments, when you trust that love really is at the core of your nature, you feel complete peace. In this peace there is a seed of sweetness perceived in the very center of the heart, and from this seed, with patience and devotion, you nurture the supreme state of joy known as ecstasy. This, then, is the path to love, although it isn’t the only path.

-Deepak Chopra

Our good friend Eckhart Tolle is here as well.

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life. Whereas before you dwelt in time and paid brief visits to the Now, have your dwelling place in the Now and pay brief visits to past and future when required to deal with the practical aspects of your life situation. Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to something that already is? What could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say “yes” to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.

-Eckhart Tolle

David Hawkins has some words to say too.

The pathway to Enlightenment via radical truth is demanding and requires the surrendering of all belief systems. Only then does the Ultimate Reality reveal itself as the sought-after ‘I’ of the Supreme.

To let go of the known for the unknown requires great commitment, willingness, and devotion to surrendering one’s faith to God.

The experience of the presence of God is available and within at all times, but awaits choice.  That choice is made only by surrendering everything other than peace and love to God. In return, the divinity of the Self reveals Itself as ever present but not experienced because it has been ignored or forgotten, or one has chosen otherwise.

The spiritual aspirant, therefore, is wise to detach from all positionalities and opinions and be willing to surrender the ego’s temporary satisfactions for a higher goal.

-David Hawkins

Ramana Maharshi puts it like this:

There are two ways of achieving surrender. One is looking into the source of the ‘I’ and merging into that source. The other is feeling ‘I am helpless myself, God alone is all powerful, and except by throwing myself completely on Him, there is no other means of safety for me’, and thus gradually developing the conviction that God alone exists and the ego does not count. Both methods lead to the same goal. Complete surrender is another name for jnana or liberation.

-Ramana Maharshi

Bashar just came up and asked for the mic.

Knowingness comes from surrender, letting go. Now, we understand that many of you, according to the definitions you have, many of you will label this as a loss of some sort of a lack of control of some sort and this is not the case.

Surrender, if we may provide our definition, is the letting go of the concept of who you think you’re supposed to be and actually being who you are, because who you are is unlimited possibilities, and when you allow yourself to surrender to the idea and the experience that you were created in the image of the Infinite, which means that you are Infinite possibilities too, then the physical reality, which is only a mirror, can then reflect those unlimited possibilities back to you in the synchronicities as they naturally unfold in your physical day-to-day life.

So surrender is actually acceptance of your total self, not the forsaking of your total self, as many of you have been led to believe through the definitions that your world has provided you with that only serve to limit you, and this is what we want to share with you and what we suggest you learn to give up, are those limitations.

-Bashar

As Adyashanti would put it, surrender or suffer.

Surrender basically boils down to a complete acceptance to life as it is in the moment, creating a space for the presence of Love. It’s more than just an intellectual acceptance, but a true acceptance that permeates your entire being.

Surrender is total internal non-resistance. It is letting go of ALL beliefs and judgments. In its place is an emptiness wherein resides the mystery, the unknown. Silence. It is the fullest emptiness you’ll ever find. It is where you find God.

Surrender does NOT imply doing nothing like a passive bump on a log. Imagine yourself being connected to chains pulling you in many different directions simultaneously. The chains represent your subconscious beliefs, your thoughts, your habits, your desires, and your attachments and aversions. Through non-resistance and allowing, the chains fall away on their own. By resisting the chains, you hold them in place. With the surrender of all chains, there is the freedom to move in any direction, or to sit perfectly still. All possibilities open up. What results is freedom. The ability to do anything.

What is the deepest result of complete and total surrender?

Enlightenment. Awakening. Remembering who you truly are. Self-realization. Peace. Love. Serenity. Ecstacy. Joy.

Starting to Actually Care About Others

Category   Love

Lately I’ve been using this blog for just some personal space to get things out and I’m going to do so a little more now.

I’ve been describing some internal shifts that have been occurring, mainly from a spiritual awakening context, yet there are some other interpersonal things shifting as well.
