Just had a long conversation with my dad about this. It came down to me trying to save the world - sympathy.

People choose their circumstances based on what lessons they chose to learn... that feels right to me.

Thanks for helping me to peel another layer of my onion. :dancing

There's nothing wrong at all with enjoying abundance in any way. The guilt you mention seems to stem from a sense of lack and insufficiency, a feeling that there's not enough to go around for everyone. There's enough for all of us to have what we want in abundance. ALL of us.

I must say this brought up resistance in me. I was watching a show last night on Boeing's expensive business jets. I thought how cool it would be to own one and just go wherever I want... the freedom + comfort. Then I thought of how many starving children I could feed in Africa with $15 million... the cost of one of the planes. This is my split.

I want to enjoy the pleasures and freedom financial abundance can offer, but I feel guilty when I think about going overboard.

Then I thought about living here in California. A typical family here in Folsom has their own house, a few cars, and eats out a couple times a week. Just by driving a gas-guzzling SUV slower, we could feed some children in Africa/cure disease etc. We just take this stuff for granted and forget how blessed we are just by living in America... let alone Folsom California.

So... this split about feeling guilty for having so much more than others and enjoying pleasures that are not necessary vs. the desire for neat toys for fun.

Can you help me out here Ariel? Abraham doesn't see anything wrong with blowing fun money. I see it as money that could be better used saving others, but I still want my jet. :D

yes, i agree. the core of Abraham's message is of course, not about ego-gratification...although many people may mistake it as such. the thing about ego pleasures is that they never last and so they play their part in an individual's growth. LoA works when we understand that Pure Desire is the desire of Source - that role, that purpose, that experience for which you manifested as yourself in the world. it's about identifying the current of Life that is flowing in a particular direction for YOU. we are all One, but our way of experiencing the manifested form of this Oneness is infinite...after all, not every enlightened person becomes a spiritual teacher...and especially in this new age, i think there is no limit to what CAN be experienced. as you say, it is experiencing wholeness on a whole new level.

Yeah, if you take away all of the self-gratification and ego pleasure stuff, we see that at its core, it's simply a way to express the Absolute within the world of the Relative, is it not? It's about experiencing wholeness on yet another level.

Right, it's not to become more perfect in any way, but to recognize the perfection in all that is and to truly be who you are and heal every false thought to the contrary.

This isn't really related to your post here but I thought you may have some input on this question:

If everything is the allness and everything is already perfect.. what is the point of spiritual 'growth'?

Why do 'spiritual teachers' exist? What is to be taught, and why? Can perfection be increased?

i used to think that law of attraction was contrary to the whole experience of enlightenment but as i study it more, i find that it has as much relevance after Realization as it does before Realization. i think the basic premise of "feeling good" is so aligned with the purity of Source Energy. it provides an easy common sense application for life AFTER enlightenment...where we can still be in the world fully and experience it fully, rather than turn away from it - which is what enlightenment can sometimes cause in a person...not knowing how to be in the world once they've seen the behind-the-scenes of it.

it almost seems to be the next step, don't you think? closing the gap between our physical manifested selves and our Pure Source Energy...and integrating in the world.
